| September 2009 | Sorting out problems with your hydraulic machinery 14 September 2009 The first step when trying to isolate the source of problems with hydraulic parts and hydraulic systems is to repeat the hydraulic basics. It might seem like obvious stuff but if you keep a simple checklist around that explains how the system works then you’ll find it less likely for something obvious to get missed. Take this example: your hydraulic pump seems to be generating heat. What do you do? Well, what do we know about hydraulic parts in general? If we go back to the basics of hydraulics you’ll remember that heat comes about in a hydraulic system when there’s a drop in pressure, by checking the different hydraulic parts in your system with an infrared thermometer you’ll find where the heat is coming from in no time. You’ll find that the majority of problems and issues can be identified by going back to the basics of your hydraulic training, so even if you can’t quite fix the issue yourself, you’ll at least know what you’re dealing with!
