| September 2009 | Maintenance for hydraulic cylinders 1 September 2009 Let's face it, hydraulic cylinders are not something you want to waste time on, but it's one of those issues that seems to crop up on a regular basis. Wear and tear on the cylinder can have a significant impact on life of the wiper seals, which can lead to things like dust getting into your hydraulic machinery. So what can you do? Well protective covers for hydraulic cylinders are now available on the market, the most common of which is called Seal Saver. This usually comprises of material that wraps from one end around the hydraulic cylinder rod and is closed on the other. The cover then is clamped to the hydraulic cylinder, so installing it is relatively simple and doesn't require the dismantling of the cylinder itself. Essentially it acts as a protective covering over the cylinder, reducing the amount of particles that can build up around the wiper seal during the movement of the rod. This is proven to one of the leading ways that contaminants can get introduced to hydraulic systems and equipment. So you can see this is a simple say to reduce the cost and labour involved in the breakdown or failing of your hydraulic equipment.
